Last week during the fourth episode of the workshop I’m running at Kaleidoscope Project Space I played Baako by Champion Dj. It’s been discussed already in the past over the net, especially at Dj Rupture’s Mudd Up program on wfmu and on Wayne Marshall’s blog.
A couple of days ago I’ve finally bought my copy of find out what happens when people stop being polite, and start gettin reel by UK duo Hype Williams and – even if I had the record already in mp3 – for the first time I noticed the same baby crying processed with auto-tune used in Champion Dj’s song, put exaclty in the beginning of the record.
I played both track simultaneously, it’s perfectly the same. I wonder if Hype Williams sampled Baako, even if Baako is on the web on different versions and lenghts. Or maybe both of them sampled that Baby T-Pain… video via Youtube more or less at the same time. I simply love those moments.
